Rock that maxi skirt stylishly!

Maxi skirts are fun, if it suits your style and you feel comfortable wearing them. For the sake of clearing the air, any skirt that that's shorter than the ankle level is any other thing other than a maxi skirt, so if you wanna do maxi, then you gotta maximize it.

I personally do not wear maxi skirts, maybe cause I have realized over time that looking frumpy is often made easy with this trend and I know how hard I laugh at others who aren't acquainted with the 'yays' and 'nays' of this trend and just fashionably step out in a long skirt looking like a hot mess; those hideous moments you notice individual interesting designer pieces on a person, but together? It's a case of a designer mess!

Okay, enough of the whining and moaning already about how appalling an uninformed person looks in the trend and let’s go straight to the problem solving part.
Whenever you want to buy or want to wear that beautiful maxi skirt of yours, there are some things you should bear in mind:

1.      Yeah… I remember saying that you should maximize your maxi skirt, but do not maximize it beyond comfort level because if you do and trip over with a broken tooth, I will definitely be the first to laugh at you. In other words, before buying your skirt make sure the skirt looks like yours so that the skirt doesn't eventually wear you; It mustn’t be too short as to be called a midi or too long(we already have Lawma keeping Lagos clean… No thanks).

2.       The fabric is a key determinant in the type of maxi skirt you should buy. Try to see what works for you. People bereft of height should stay away from layered Caribbean skirts with heavy fabrics, they could be overpowering but rather stick with more fluid fabrics. But in the end it all boils down to you, see what works for you and stick to it and it’s variants.

3.       This rule is for whoever doesn’t want to look like a derelict in the name of fashion (ask Rita Dominic about the Red wedges and the hideous grey maxi dress with the overhyped designer bag she carried where it landed her on Emmy’s list, she’ll tell you more). To the matter at hand; the rule is simple ‘never wear a loose top on a loose skirt, with special regards to the layered a-line maxi skirt, otherwise called the Caribbean skirt’ I assure you that it has never looked nice, not even on the most stylish woman that ever lived… don’t ask who. If you must wear a loose top then the maxi skirt should be more silhouette hugging.

4.       Wear the right shoes. If you are petite, wear heels to elongate your silhouette and make you look more elegant. And personally, I will rather have strappy sandals or wedges beneath a maxi skirt than pumps or court shoes… but for you??? Whatever floats your boat (Your mirror should be your bestfriend)
Notice how Beyonce picks a colour from the skirt and pairs it with whilst balancing it out with black shoes and bags
5.       Coordinate your colours. The maxi skirt makes one look ‘busy’ easily, so it is often advised to go easy on the colours when styling. If the skirt is a layered skirt with different pieces (especially those made with different patches of African prints), it will be advisable to pick a colour or 2 at most for the purpose of styling.

Having read this, you can now go rock the maxi skirt easily without the fear of appearing like a derelict(Ok… I will try to rock it too. Lol)

Don't let your thoughts remain as mere thoughts, let them be read by all... The comment box awaits you...XOXO!!!
